Repair, renew & transform
Before repair………
After repair…
The Green Man garden fountain is now fully functioning. The broken composite stone neck repaired, the missing pieces re-modelled and paint matched to the original then weather sealed. The structure strengthened with a steel plate bolted to the rear and the copper pipe repaired and placed back into the head of the fountain. All ready to grace a garden or courtyard wall once again.
At ‘The Restoration Workshop’ Eric is sometimes asked to look at the repair of a surprising variety of objects.
Before repair….
A once beautiful 19th century Swedish twelve branch chandelier, broken and mangled.
After repair and restoration….. This beautiful chandelier now re-assembled, with the old dangerous electric wiring removed. A hint of the brass body glinting in the candle light, providing an elegant atmospheric feature in this dining room.
How the damage has occurred is usually not obvious and what survives is just a pile of pieces, defining the task to be achieved.
Before repair………
This striking and beautifully weathered stone bust has fallen and the head broken clean off the shoulders. It was destined for landfill. The remains were moments from becoming rubble. Eric drilled into the head and bonded a steel bar deep inside. This was then aligned with a corresponding hole in the torso and the two bonded together.
Sometimes there are several stone elements, maybe a battered collection of wooden parts or a cardboard box of dented metal components and twisted wires.
Next………..
Once the head and torso bonding was complete, the many missing pieces around the break were replaced with a special resin based modelling clay and left to set hard.
Finally…….
Once the all the resins had set, Eric completed the restoration by paint matching the repair and then weather sealing. The beautiful bust ready to grace a garden, display or entrance portico once again.
Everything is a challenge!
